Glasstress. Window to the future

The State Hermitage Museum jointly with Studio Berengo, Venice held the exhibition “Glasstress. A window to the future ”.

The exhibition featured more than fifty works by contemporary artists who created their works in glass on the island of Murano, Venice. Among the exhibitors are such famous masters as Ai Weiwei, Renata Bertlmann, Kuhn Vanmechelen, Michael Joo, Joseph Kossuth, Peta Coyne, Mat Collishaw, Laure Prouvoe and others. Of particular interest are works by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Jake and Dinos Chapmen, Jaume Plensa, Jan Fabre, Hans Op de Beck - the works of these authors have been shown with great success at exhibitions in the State Hermitage.

This is one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary art, occupying more than ten halls in area, including the monumental spaces of the Great Suite and the White Hall, as well as the spaces of the Nadvorna Suite and the Red Halls of the General Staff Building. In the spaces of the General Staff building, miniature sculptures, large-scale installations, multi-meter chandeliers and even video art are exhibited. These pieces reflect the bright, complex ideas of the artists and show how glass can be “pushed out of your comfort zone” and combined with other materials.
