In Russia, windows may rise in price due to the new GOST

In Russia, from November 1, 2021, a new GOST for windows and balcony doors will come into force, which may lead to their rise in price, but will not become mandatory for developers.

The new version has a whole section, in which lists of safety requirements for washing windows and breaking glazing are separately highlighted. Also, in particular, the mechanisms of protection against unauthorized entry into the building, prevention of children falling out of the windows are spelled out.

To protect children, it is now necessary to install a "non-standard" opening mechanism or fittings with locks on the windows of new buildings, commented Mikhail Pajushin, Managing Partner of Freeviser Law Firm. According to him, this will definitely lead to higher prices for windows.

According to the estimates of Andrei Zimonov, the construction director of Granel, GOST as a whole will lead to an increase in the cost of window structures in the range of 3-25%, depending on the fulfillment of a particular requirement.

"For example, the use of a child safety lock, depending on the width of the sash, adds about 2-5%. Anti-burglar fittings with a mushroom handle increase the cost of the material by 5-7%, but usually they are only needed in windows on the first floor. The use of anti-vandal films can increase the cost of a window. constructions up to 25% ", - Zimonov calculated.

Freeviser’s Payushin said the new rules should be expected to increase slightly in construction costs. At the same time, this GOST in Russia is likely to be voluntary, said Alexei Efanov, director of the Engineering department of the SRG group of companies. According to him, this standard replaces three other GOSTs, which had the status of voluntary standards.

"In order not to go up in price and keep within the planned budget, developers can go for certain tricks related, for example, to cheapening of plastic or accessories," Pajushin suggested.
