Unique Ancient Anatolian Glass Discovered in Turkey

Archaeologists have discovered ancient glass samples in Turkey that are over 3,500 years old. The find was made on the western bank of the Kızılırmak River in the central part of the country, Arkeonews writes.

The glass artifacts, including a rare pear-shaped glass bottle with decorative patterns, as well as a cobalt-blue disc pendant, testify to the high level of craftsmanship of local artisans. Scientists suggest that glass could have been used for ritual purposes or as a luxury item.

This find confirms that glass production in Anatolia existed as early as the 2nd millennium BC, making the region one of the oldest glassmaking centers in the world. Further research will help clarify the technologies for the production and distribution of glass products in ancient times.

The discovery sheds light on the cultural and trade links of the ancient civilizations of Asia Minor.
