The Ministry of Natural Resources of Belarus told us what work is being done to increase the production of environmentally friendly packaging

Maxim Tarasov, head of the waste management department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, told how they are working to increase the production of environmentally friendly packaging in Belarus.

“To increase sales of products in glass packaging, retail outlets of various formats require the availability of soft drinks, mineral and drinking water in glass containers, as well as paper bags, disposable tableware and paper cutlery. At the same time, the number of varieties of plastic bags and plastic utensils has been minimized,” noted Maxim Tarasov, as quoted by BELTA.

He said that in 2023, the implementation of an investment project for creating a production of glass containers using innovative energy-efficient resource-saving technologies at the facility of the Grodno Glass Factory OJSC was also completed in order to increase the production of glass containers and expand its range. Lightweight bottles are produced there, the color range and the range of glass bottle shapes have been expanded. As a result of the implementation of this project, the production of glass containers was organized on three lines of a glass melting furnace with a capacity of 220 tons of glass melt per day.

“In the field of production and use of environmentally friendly packaging in Belarus, work is constantly underway to create new and modernize existing packaging made from paper, cardboard, glass, including disposable tableware. The key producers of environmentally friendly packaging in the country are the pulp and paper enterprises of the Bellesbumprom concern. Corrugated cardboard and packaging made from it are a market alternative to polymer packaging,” said the head of the waste management department of the Ministry of Natural Resources.

For example, since 2020, the annual production capacity of packaging paper with barrier properties has increased by 300 tons compared to 2019.
