The German container glass market is showing slight stabilization

According to the German container glass industry association, Bundesverband Glasindustrie e. V., container glass sales in Germany grew by 2.2% in 2025. Despite this recovery, the situation remains challenging for manufacturers.

In 2025, the German container glass market showed signs of stabilization after a period of decline. With sales increasing by 2.2% year-on-year, the market volume reached approximately 3.87 million tonnes. This is notable after significant declines in previous years, when sales fell by 15.5% in 2023 and by 2.5% in 2024.

In the beverage bottle sector, sales grew by 1.4% in 2025, although other segments also showed different dynamics. Beer and spirits bottle sales declined by 1.6%, while wine and sparkling wine packaging saw a 3.6% increase. Particularly strong growth was seen in the soft drinks segment, such as water, milk, and juices, where sales increased by 6.1%. These positive trends in the first half of 2025 continued, but the market still lags behind previous years.

The glass containers for food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics segment also saw sales growth of 3.6% in 2025. Particularly strong growth was seen in the food glass container segment, excluding canned fruits, vegetables, and pickled products (OGS), where sales increased by 6.1%. The OGS subsegment saw a slight increase of 0.8% compared to the previous year.
