Uzbekistan plans to introduce a recycling fee for construction glass

The Agency for Technical Regulation has proposed introducing a recycling fee for the processing of construction glass waste in Uzbekistan. Deputies approved the bill in the first reading.

A recycling fee for the processing of construction glass waste is planned to be introduced in Uzbekistan. The corresponding bill was adopted in the first reading by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis at a meeting on Tuesday.

Akmal Zhumanazarov, Director of the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation, said that the annual forecast for the formation of glass waste in the country is about 408 thousand tons. In 2024, only 37 thousand tons were processed - this is only 9% of the total volume. According to him, the resulting glass waste harms the environment.

To solve the problem, the bill provides for the creation of an infrastructure for the processing of waste generated during the use of construction glass, as well as the introduction of a recycling fee to compensate for the costs associated with organizing the processing.

The experience of Russia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan was studied when developing the document.

Zhumanazarov believes that the bill is aimed at ensuring environmental safety, protecting the health of citizens and the environment.

105 deputies voted for the adoption of the document in the first reading, 4 voted against, 5 abstained, 14 did not vote.
