Dear friends, colleagues!
On February 8, the Day of Russian Science is celebrated annually, which was established by decree of the President of the Russian Federation on June 7, 1999, “taking into account the outstanding role of domestic science in the development of the state and society, following historical traditions and in commemoration of the 275th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Sciences in Russia.” .
On February 8, 1724, by Decree of Peter I, the Academy of Sciences was created, designed to become a center for the development of domestic science and education, as well as the dissemination of knowledge in Russia.
Today, February 8, 2024, the Russian Academy of Sciences turns 300 years old!
Russian science has given the world many great names and discoveries. One of whom was the brilliant Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov, a luminary of world science who showed the role and importance of people who are capable of giving glass to the world!
Mikhail Vasilyevich was the creator of the chemical production of glaze, glass, and porcelain. He developed the technology and recipe for colored glass - smalt (pieces of a homogeneous opaque mixture of glass and metal oxides), which he used to create mosaic paintings.
Nowadays, interest in studying the properties of this material, born of earth and fire, does not wane! Looking to the future, researchers hope to realize significant breakthroughs by using glass to neutralize nuclear waste, create safe batteries and design biomedical implants. Engineers are developing ingenious touch screens, chameleon glasses, and unbreakable glass.
