Association «StekloSoyuz» of Russia at the XIII International Forum «Beer and soft drinks industry of Russia - a look into the future»

On February 9, 2024, the XIII International Forum “Russian Beer and Soft Drinks Industry - A Look into the Future” took place in Moscow.

At this large-scale and very important event for the development of consumption of domestic glass containers, the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia was represented by President Viktor Osipov.

Viktor Osipov made a report on the topic: “The current state of production and consumption of glass containers in Russia. Problems and prospects until 2030.”

In his speech, Viktor Osipov assured the heads of the representative and executive bodies of government of the State Duma, the Federation Council and relevant ministries that the glass industry will fully provide the Russian food industry with various types of glass containers.

At the same time, he pointed out that the new government policy on extended producer responsibility (EPR) will bring big problems for glass container factories. By-laws do not answer the pressing questions of market participants. There is no understanding on the organization of separate collection, on tariffs, rates. The rates indicated in the PP do not correspond to the technological capabilities of glass melting furnaces.

By 2027, it has been established that rates must correspond to 100 percent of glass containers produced. The figures have no analogues in the world practice of repeated melting of raw materials from scrap glass.

There are many other contradictions in current legislation. Currently, StekloSoyuz of Russia, together with the leaders of the Government of the Russian Federation and relevant ministries, is carrying out planned work to eliminate the reasons that interfere with the proper organization of EPR.
