Kazakhstani «Caustic» and Bashkir Soda Company set up a joint venture

A joint venture (JV) has been created between Kazakhstan's Caustic JSC and Bashkir Soda Company JSC, within the framework of which projects with a total volume of up to $ 1 billion will be implemented in Kazakhstan and Russia, the press service of the government of Kazakhstan reported.

The agreement on the creation of the joint venture was signed on Saturday within the framework of the Kazakh-Bashkir business forum in Ufa, where the head of the government of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin was on a working visit.

"The production of caustic soda, sodium hypochlorite, chlorine, hydrochloric acid, titanium dioxide and other chemical products will be ensured. Moreover, the only production of zirconium oxychloride in the CIS will be set up," the message issued following the forum says.

The general agreement on cooperation between Bashkir Soda Company JSC (BSK, Sterlitamak) and Kaustik JSC (Pavlodar) was signed in August 2021. The document assumed joint work of enterprises in the development of a feasibility study for a chemical cluster project.

It was assumed that during the creation of the cluster, the Kazakhstani "Caustic" would become the anchor enterprise, and the BSC would realize the "potential of the engineering and production center" in the construction of an innovative enterprise for the production of PVC for the market of Kazakhstan and Central Asia, zirconium oxychloride, as well as epichlorohydrin, aluminum chloride, chloride allyl and a number of other products.

At the same time, the BSC will direct its financial resources, first of all, to the development of Bashkiria and the city of Berezniki, where the BSC and the "Bereznikovsky Soda Plant" are located. For the Kazakhstan cluster, the source of financing will be the Eurasian Development Bank, which supports joint projects of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. "

On the territory of Kazakhstan, in May 2017, a subsidiary structure of BSK, LLP "Bashkir Soda Company - Kazakhstan", was registered.

The opening of the JSC Caustic plant took place in October 2011, investments in its construction amounted to more than $ 108 million. The design capacity is 30 thousand tons of caustic soda, 6.6 thousand tons of sodium hypochlorite, 26.4 thousand tons of chlorine and 45 thousand tons of hydrochloric acid per year.

Until 2011, the main source of supply of these products to the Kazakh market was imports from Russia, Uzbekistan and China. With the entry of JSC "Caustic" into the market, the situation has changed: the products manufactured by the plant are supplied both to the Kazakhstan market (completely replacing imports) and are exported to the CIS countries and far abroad.

"Bashkir Soda Company" is the leader in the Russian Federation in the production of soda ash (62% of the total Russian volume), baking soda (72%), occupies 17% of the market for the production of caustic soda, 26% - of polyvinyl chloride, is the only manufacturer of terephthaloyl chloride, anodes with ruthenium- iridium coating, cationic polyelectrolyte flocculant. In addition, the company produces cable compounds, white soot, calcium chloride, hydrochloric acid, chlorinated paraffins, and PVC films.
