On the basis of the glass factory of JSC GLASS MARKET it is planned to open a section of the correctional center

An agreement of intent was signed by the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Smolensk Region, Colonel of the Internal Service Alexander Trachuk, and Nikolay Savchin, General Director of the Glass Market Joint-Stock Company.

The directions of the forthcoming joint work were discussed during the round table held on the basis of the enterprise.

The glass factory is one of the largest and oldest enterprises for the production of containers for various purposes, not only in the Smolensk region, but also in the country as a whole. It counts its existence since 1936. Large production requires a considerable number of specialists. Despite the good level of wages and decent working conditions provided by the plant, there is a certain shortage of personnel here. Today, production requires people of different specialties: glass production inspectors, turners, repairmen, forklift drivers, loaders, auxiliary workers, assemblers.

Having learned about the initiative of the Federal Penitentiary Service to open sections of correctional centers in the country directly on the basis of organizations, the management of GLASS MARKET became interested. At present, a building has already been selected to accommodate the convicts. The facility is undergoing renovations that are expected to be completed as soon as possible. The hostel has 50 beds. And this means that when the correctional center is put into operation, the glass factory will be stably provided with fifty workers on a permanent basis.

- To date, in the institutions of the Smolensk region, almost 1,200 convicts have reached the deadline for filing a petition with the court to replace the unserved part of the punishment with a milder form, for example, forced labor. This means that the opening of a new section of the correctional center will enable fifty positively characterized convicts, having left the correctional colony, to become one step closer to freedom, proving their desire to return to a law-abiding life with their conscientious work and behavior, - explained Anna Pavlova, head of the department for monitoring the execution of punishments not related to the isolation of convicts from society.
