At the bottom of the Gulf of Finland, a Dutch sailboat with alcohol of the 18th century was found

The discovery was announced by the Center for Underwater Research (CPI) of the Russian Geographical Society (RGO).

Center experts have found hundreds of glass bottles on board the ancient wreck. According to experts, the ship transported alcohol to St. Petersburg in the 18th century.

The ship lies at a depth of more than 50 meters without masts and windlass. Experts have determined that this is a Dutch tjalk that sank in the middle of the 18th century.

Divers found hundreds of glass bottles of various types on board: wide and narrow, handmade and factory-made. "The glass industry of the 18th century is represented on the ship in all its diversity," the message on the RGS website says.

The contents of most of the bottles have not survived, but many have a smell. In addition, several bottles were left with a stamp with the marking of the drink, judging by which they contained gin.

“In several bottles, you can smell pine needles, eucalyptus,” noted Roman Prokhorov, an underwater archaeologist and restorer of the Russian Geographical Research Center, whose words are quoted in the message. Experts hope to determine the age and route of the vessel by studying the archives.
