Dear colleagues!

We would like to inform you that Siberian Glass LLC (Sibsteklo, an asset of RATM Holding), a member of the Association StekloSouz of Russia, has started implementing the principles of lean production within the framework of the national project “Labor Productivity”.

At this stage, special attention is paid to eliminating losses using the 5S system and SMED technologies, which will allow additional production of up to 120 thousand units of glass containers per year from each line, and there are eleven of them at the plant. Consulting support is provided by experts from the Regional Competence Center.

According to Anton Mor, Director General of Siberian Glass LLC, in order to form a range of improvements, the lean management model was adapted to the industry specifics of the company:

- For example, in our case, it is not advisable to reduce the stocks of raw materials - they must be formed at least for a month. We do not have the so-called work in progress (products that have not passed all stages of processing) - production is organized according to the flow principle, mass production, and therefore it is also not justified to produce glass products in small batches.

Recall that during the diagnostics of production processes, experts came to the conclusion that it is necessary to optimize the transfer of production lines from the manufacture of one assortment to another.

“With two changeovers per month, reducing the time of each by 30 minutes, Sibsteklo will increase the number of bottles produced on the line by 10 thousand pieces, without increasing the use of energy and raw materials,” Anton Mor comments on the planned results of creating a sample flow.

Among the measures that will reduce temporary losses, they consider the unification of the height of the mold sets, so that you do not have to move all the equipment when replacing them. Thus, this procedure will take literally 15 minutes. As a result, repairmen will have the opportunity to pay more attention to preventive work. By changing the location of warehouses for two divisions, we eliminated unnecessary movement of employees in the performance of their duties - the route became twice as short.

In addition, the installation of modern equipment at the SPS repair and maintenance area ensured a 40% savings in auxiliary materials. For pallets with a certain range of glass containers sent to customers, the composition of the packaging was revised and tight-fitting straps were abandoned.

“We strive to minimize unnecessary costs for the company and customers, as well as man-made impact on the environment,” says Anton Mor. - The concept of lean manufacturing is integrated into the ESG agenda, as it is also associated with the rational consumption of resources, economic development, and, as a result, is aimed at increasing the sustainability of our business, generating profit. In addition, the use of lean tools does not imply high costs, there are always hidden reserves. In each employee, we value the ability to see and solve problems at their workplace, motivating people to increase their own efficiency.
