Novak spoke about the implementation of climate policy in Russia

Russia actively supports the global climate agenda, plans to reduce CO2 emissions to about 70% of the 1990 level by 2030 and eventually achieve carbon neutrality, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said during the New Knowledge educational marathon.

“I believe that the global climate agenda, the trend that exists today, Russia actively supports. This is confirmed by the fact that we signed the Paris Agreement (it was signed in 2015, entered into force for Russia in 2019 - ed.), Russia declared the target indicators that we must achieve. By 2030, we must reduce CO2 emissions to about 70% of the 1990 level ... I believe that we can fully achieve ... zero or close to zero CO2 emissions ", - he noted.

Novak said that today net CO2 emissions into the atmosphere in Russia amount to 1.6 billion tons, while at the end of the 1990s they reached 3.1 billion tons.

He also noted that work to reduce emissions is carried out in several directions. "We are talking about improving energy efficiency, which, in turn, leads to a decrease in energy consumption ... Second, the government has approved the Best Available Technologies" (federal project "Implementation of the Best Available Technologies" - ed.), Which should be used by enterprises, he added.

Novak also stressed that in Russia emissions of associated petroleum gas during oil production are being reduced and power plants are being modernized.

“Today we have increased the rate of APG (associated petroleum gas - ed.) Utilization to 85%. That is, only 15% is still being emitted. But in the coming years we will have to come close to 100%. were not burned, but pumped either into the strata, or used to generate electricity ... We are modernizing power plants ... reducing fuel costs for generating kWh of electricity. Over the past few years, these costs have decreased by 10%, "he added.

"There are many other directions, but I want to say that this is our deliberate policy related to the implementation of climate policy, it takes place purposefully, by making decisions and encouraging our companies to deal with these issues," Novak concluded.
