Russian President Vladimir Putin has supported changes to the Extended Producer Responsibility mechanism, under which manufacturers of goods independently dispose of manufactured goods or pay an environmental fee. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko in the Telegram channel.

"President of Russia Vladimir Putin supported our proposals to conceptually change the current system of extended producer responsibility. The principle that manufacturers of goods independently dispose of released goods or pay eco-fee has been in effect for more than one year. And almost all over the world. But the tools of the existing ERP have proven to be ineffective" , - wrote Abramchenko.

As the vice-premier noted, instead of processing the produced "garbage", the companies present fake recycling certificates, lack of capacity and sending waste to landfills. ROP in its current form is a profanity.

"Conceptual changes are overdue. We must implement a fair and understandable principle -" the polluter pays. "If you make a profit by influencing nature, reduce this harm and eliminate the consequences," Abramchenko added.
