Sisecam opens the world's largest glass production complex in Eskisehir

The Turkish company Şişecam, one of the leading glass and chemicals manufacturers, fired up a new glass container production furnace in Eskişehir and put into operation the glass products furnace after renovation. This investment, totaling US$174 million, raised the production capacity of the Şişecam complex in Eskişehir to approximately 1 million tonnes, making it the world's largest glass production facility.

Chairman and Executive Member of the Board of Directors of Şişecam, Dr. Ahmet Kırman, commented on the investment: “Our glass furnace, which was built with an investment of approximately US$145 million, will employ an additional 127 people. The furnace with a total capacity of 198 thousand tons per year is designed for the production of high-quality bottles and cans. These investments, made in challenging economic conditions, will ensure we meet growing demand and support the sectors we serve. As a result, the Şişecam glass packaging plant in Eskisehir, equipped with five furnaces and 24 lines, has become the largest in the world with a total production capacity of about 760 thousand gross tons per year.”

“Our investment in Eskisehir is not just about glass containers. The cold refurbishment of our second furnace at the Eskisehir glassware factory, completed with an investment of approximately US$29 million, has significantly increased our capacity, making Şişecam a world leader in glassware production. The updated furnace with a total capacity of 64 thousand tons per year will also create 246 new jobs. Thus, our glassware production capacity in Eskisehir has reached approximately 190 thousand gross tons per year,” said Görkem Elverici, CEO of Şişecam.

With this significant investment, Şişecam's consolidated production capacity in Eskisehir for glass containers and tableware has reached approximately 1 million tons. This milestone makes Şişecam Eskişehir the world's largest integrated glass manufacturing facility, capable of achieving greater resource efficiency and labor productivity.
