Glass cullet for glass factories - myth or reality? The StekloSouz Association highlighted this issue in the RANEPA program «Production and Consumption Waste Management»

In the period from 17 to 20 September, another additional professional advanced training program "Management of production and consumption waste" was held, conducted by the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation (hereinafter - RANEPA). Representatives of state authorities and experts in the field of waste management from Yakutsk, Moscow and the Moscow region, Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, St. Petersburg, Tver, Volgograd, Nizhny Novgorod, Dagestan, the Republic of Tyva, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous districts. This program is held only twice a year. At the end of the program, a RANEPA certificate of advanced training is issued.

From the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia as a speaker with a report on the topic "Raw materials for glass factories: types of glass waste, processing, logistics, economics, technology" was made by Ph.D. Kartuzova Maria Nikolaevna.

Currently in Russia the bulk of glass waste is generated in waste generated by the population. At the same time, in the total mass of waste, glass is 12.0 million tons per year, of which about 5-7 million tons per year are formed in the MSW.

No more than 10% of the resulting cullet is sent to secondary production, at some glass factories this figure reaches 25%. The percentage of secondary remelting of cullet at glass factories in Russia can be increased to 80% in the production of green glass, and up to 40% in the production of colorless and brown glass.

The low percentage of cullet use by glass factories is associated with a shortage of cullet, as well as with a high content of impurities in cullet (up to 20%), which cannot but affect the profitability of production.

At the same time, the economic and ecological feasibility of recycling cullet has been proven in practice, since each ton of used cullet saves 1.2 tons of primary raw materials, and an increase in the amount of cullet in the batch for every 10% saves 2% of energy.

To increase the percentage of glass cullet remelting by glass factories, it is necessary to resolve a number of issues, such as:

- an increase in the amount of cullet collected from the population;

- when considering the issue of increasing the standard for cullet recycling, assess the real possibilities of recycling cullet by Russian factories, depending on the color of the glass being produced and the type of products;

- to subsidize procurers and glass factories at the expense of money from the payment of environmental fees for measures to modernize enterprises to increase the percentage of cullet utilization, as well as to improve the quality of cullet.

You can learn about this and much more in the framework of the additional professional advanced training program "Management of production and consumption waste", namely:

• legal, financial and organizational aspects of production and consumption waste management;

• best practices from Russian and foreign experts and professionals;

• understanding the risks and benefits of commercial management of production and consumption waste;

• understanding the "chain" of waste management and pitfalls in its organization;

• advanced and proven experience in separate waste collection, primary and secondary processing of raw materials;

• a systemic vision of a circular economy, where waste is not garbage, but profitable raw materials.
