Ukrainian glass factories began to stop due to high gas prices

Three glass factories in Ukraine have stopped due to extreme natural gas prices, the Izvestia newspaper writes, citing the Glass of Ukraine profile association.

Ukrainian glass processing plants have begun to curtail production. Three companies in the industry have already announced their stoppage due to the inability to operate under the current prices for natural gas.

“Due to the rising cost of energy resources, three enterprises in the glass industry have already completely stopped, and the rest have entered the stage of technological downtime in order to prevent a complete shutdown of furnaces,” the organization said in a statement.

The thing is that energy carriers account for about half of the cost of glass products, so this economic sector is very sensitive to the situation in the energy market. For this reason, more than 12 thousand workers, as well as employees of related enterprises, may be left without work. Glass factories are rapidly turning into unprofitable businesses, with many of them already close to bankruptcy.

A similar situation in Ukraine is developing in the baking industry. Bakeries may stop production due to unacceptably high prices for natural gas, the head of the Ukrkhlebprom association Oleksandr Vasylchenko said earlier.
