According to the Xinhua agency, these are the largest deposits of monomineral fractions of pegmatite-type lithium ore in Asia.
Chinese geologists have discovered a large lithium deposit in Yajiang County, Sichuan Province in southwestern China, with ore reserves reaching about 1 million tons. This was reported by Xinhua agency with reference to the Ministry of Natural Resources of China.
These are said to be Asia's largest deposits of monomineral fractions of pegmatite-type lithium ore (formed in the late stages of magma crystallization under the influence of volatile components - TASS note). The Chinese authorities, as specified, will help increase the supply of lithium ore.
Lithium is the lightest and softest metal. It is used to improve the strength and ductility of alloys, including in the defense and nuclear industries, as well as in the production of glass and ceramics, electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries and solar cells. In addition to China, significant reserves of lithium ore have been discovered in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Australia and the USA.
